The Advantages of Accushim

Accushim is a range of precision precut stainless steel shims that provide a highly effective and professional solution for all machine height adjustment requirements. Accushim is highly versatile, accommodating a wide range of shim applications with six different size formats available to suit different types of small, medium and large machines.

Fine adjustment of the machine position and its soft foot errors are easily achieved by taking advantage of the extensive range of 13 stainless steel shim thicknesses available in every Accushim kit, which allows a shim stack of any precise height to be put together with the minimum number of shims. Accurate machine adjustment is made even easier by each shim not only being manufactured to tight thickness tolerances, but also being gauged and individually marked with both the nominal shim thickness and its precisely gauged individual thickness.

Grades of Stainless Steel shims

All standard Accushim kits are manufactured from US milled 304 grade Stainless Steel. This tough material is very resistant to damage, stable under highly tensioned bolt loads and provides excellent corrosion resistance even in continuously damp operating conditions.

For the most demanding environments, including marine conditions with direct salt water exposure, Accushim is also available in US milled 316 grade Stainless Steel that offers high level corrosion resistance.

Corrosion of inferior and galvanically active shim materials such as brass and aluminium shims can not only affect the life of machine components but may also alter machine alignment due to growth of the oxidised rust layer. For the shimming requirements of all ferrous equipment, including cast iron, mild steel and stainless steel components, stainless steel shims are the optimum choice for minimal corrosion over extended service periods. In most conditions, stainless steel is also the preferred choice of shim material for aluminium equipment, as long as the shim area is small compared to the surface area of the shimmed component, which is normally the case.

Why Stainless Steel shims?

Stainless steel shims are equally superior to plastic shim in industrial applications for many reasons, despite the low cost and ease of use of plastic. The strength of plastic shims is comparatively low, and under heavy compressive bolt loads they are subject to distortion over time. Soft plastic shim is also easily embedded with foreign particles that cannot be removed. The comparatively very large thermal growth coefficient of most plastic materials can cause significant positional errors and is compounded by their incompatibility with high operating temperatures.

In summary, Accushim precut stainless steel shims provide the optimum adjustment solution for all precision industrial machinery, allowing accurate, stable and corrosion resistant height adjustment with the simple practicality provided by 13 available shim thicknesses in a wide range of shim sizes.
